Mysuru , Karnataka :

In a bid to create awareness on admission of children in non-minority unaided private schools under the Right to Education (RTE) Act, the BEO Mysuru Rural office, in association with Block Resource Centre (BRC), had organised a sensitisation programme for parents and school heads and teachers at Gurubhavan, behind Veene Seshanna Bhavan at Adichunchanagiri Road here this morning.

Addressing the participants, Taluk Education Officer M. Vivekananda said that a total of 667 seats were available under the RTE Act in schools across the taluk.

A child should be aged between 3-years-and-10 months and 4-years-and-10 months for admission to LKG and aged between 5-years-10-months and 6-years-10-months for admission to first standard, as on June 1, 2016. However, there is no age limit for HIV positive, orphaned, destitute and transgender children, he said and added that age specification will be strictly followed in case of other category children (SC, ST & OBC).

Warning the parents seeking admission of children under RTE Act, against production of fake date of birth certificates, Vivekananda also cautioned the schools of legal action for any over or under admissions under the RTE Act.

Calling upon the public to make most of this opportunity and admit their wards in schools under the RTE Act, he said that parents can submit applications until Mar.15.
