PU’s Solar Tech Course to Turn Dropouts into Entrepreneurs : India

An outreach programme targeting unemployed school dropouts was inaugurated at the Pondicherry University here on Thursday. University vice chancellor Chandra Krishnamurthy inaugurated the programme.

The department of International Business, Pondicherry University, in association with Phocos India Solar Ltd and KFw, a German agency, is organizing the course on production of solar equipment and for developing entrepreneurial skills.

The objective is to train drop-outs in and around Puducherry on production, assembling and marketing of solar products, an official said. Initially, thirty participants have been selected to undergo training. Solar energy products maker, Phocos India Solar Ltd, will give the requisite technical training at its factory. Theory classes will be conducted in the department of International Business premises during weekends. Detailed study materials will be provided to the participants free of cost. The focus is on self-employment.
