SC/ST Women to get 50% reservation in benefits : India

“In a bid to bring SC/ST women into the mainstream, 50% in the benefits given by Dr. B.R. Ambedkar Development Corporation will be reserved for SC/ST women,” said Dr. B.R. Ambedkar Development Corporation Chairperson Malajamma at Kalamandira today. Delivering the keynote address at the well-attended interaction programme organised by the Corporation to create awareness among Dalits on various benefits being given by the Corporation, which was formed in 1975 and running with a fund of more than Rs. 200 crore, she said that the programme is being held to prepare plans for the coming 10 years.

Stating that the Corporation intends to give education loans, Rs. 2 to 5 lakh loans for advocates of SC/ST communities to open an office, she said that the Corporation had sought Rs. 2,500 crore from the Government to meet its targets in the next 10 years. Malajamma further said that physically challenged SC/ST people would be given sufficient loans to set up their own business centres.

Safai Karmachari leaders Venkatesh and Krishna, participating in the interaction, alleged that the Corporation was discriminating Safai Karmacharis by imposing conditions while sanctioning loans for establishing business centres. They also demanded the increase of loan amount being given to Safai Karmacharis from Rs. 50,000 to Rs. 5 lakh.

One Kalavathi sought to know how the funds were being utilised by the Corporation and sought the Corporation to provide students with laptops.

ZP President Dr. Pushpa B. Amarnath, MLA Chikkamadu, Manager D.S. Prabha, Deputy General Manager D. Kumar, Alagodu Shivakumar, Shambulingaswamy and Ningaraj Malladi were present.
