Majority of Minorities in Himachal Unaware of Welfare Schemes for them: India

Dharamsala:

Majority of people in Himachal Pradesh are unaware of the various developmental schemes especially the scholarship schemes for the students and the loan schemes for the people, implemented by the government for their benefit. The details were revealed by S Angmo, the member of the Minority Commission of India.

It was pointed out that for the welfare of the minorities 15 per cent of the 15 point plan is being spent for their development. There is also a recommendation to set up a branch of minorities finance commission at Dharamsala, so that the people of these areas could be benefited. Currently there is only one such branch in the state at Shimla.

Angmo further stressed that the department of social justice and empowerment of the state must work hard to make people aware of these schemes. Further there was a recommendation on establishment of mobile schools and hostels in the remote areas of the state for the minorities.

15 point plan is a programme initiated by the Prime Minister for the welfare of the minorities. The programme focuses on enhancement of opportunities for education, ensuring an equitable share for minorities in economic activities and employment, and prevention and control of communal riots.
