Tiruchi, TamilNadu :

Members of the Tiruchi unit of National Federation of the Blind have urged the State government to set up training institute to impart special skills to the visually-challenged candidates aspiring for the recruitment by Tamil Nadu Public Service Commission.

In a memorandum to the Chief Minister routed through the district administration here on Monday, S. Manoharan, general secretary of the Tiruchi unit, said that training should be imparted for the post of fitters, assembler, telephone operator, and computer operator.

The memorandum wanted implementation of 3 per cent reservation in job opportunities with 1 per cent allotted for the visually-challenged persons. The memorandum wanted similar 1 per cent reservation in the allotment of quarters being constructed by the Tamil Nadu Housing Board and the Tamil Nadu Slum Clearance Board.

Referring to the delay in getting job opportunities, the memorandum urged the State government to sanction loans to the educated and unemployed visually-challenged persons to take up self-employment vocations.
