The last date of registration for the central government sponsored pre-matric scholarship has been extended to September 25.

According to a press communique from the Minorities Welfare Department (MWD) on Tuesday, eligible students have been instructed to register their applications online .

The MWD also issued instructions that if the name of any school is not found on the online database, the management of the such schools should contact the district minority welfare officer so that the schools can be updated in the e-pass database along with the DISE code number, copies of reorganization and a letter from MEO for primary and upper primary schools and DEO for high schools.

Earlier, it was reported in these columns how

The State Level Bankers Committee had issued notice to all banks to open ‘no frills accounts’ for applicants from the minority community, seeking scholarships, without laying down the condition of maintaining a minimum balance. Banks were insisting that applicants maintain a minimum balance of between Rs 250 and Rs 500′, which the convener of SLBC, C Doraswamy said would deprive thousands of minority community students from getting scholarships as banks ‘were not evincing interest in opening no-frills accounts’.
