Rotary distributes 1,725 school desks on Tuesday

Save our Schools- a Rotary’s initiative to provide school desks, is picking up momentum with more international partners joining Rotary’s dream to educate children.

The programme, a brain child of its Chairman and past district governor of RI District 3150, Ravi Vadlamani, has already changed more than 2 million lives with over 60,000 school desks being distributed across the state.

The unique programme envisions active participation of students and their schools. Schools could sponsor school desks to those lacking them.

Further, Rotary Clubs are encouraged to adopt schools and provide basic facilities such as renovate toilets, provide clean drinking water, provide benches, provide equipment and sports and recreational facilities.

On Tuesday, former Joint Director of CBI V.V Lakshminarayana, and District Collector S. Suresh Kumar were present where 1,725 high school benches were distributed at Patibandla Seetharamaiah High School. District governor, RI District 3150, Ch. Harikrishna and past district governors were present.

The benches were sponsored by RI District 2110, Italy, RI District 1380, Finland and Rotary Foundation. Rotary Clubs of Guntur Aadarsh and Chilakaluripet also supported the programme.

Addressing students, Mr. Lakshminarayana said that poverty has never been a hindrance to the development of an individual growth and development.

He cited the examples of former president Abdul Kalam and former Prime Minister Lal Bahadur Sastri to explain that poverty could never stand in the way of one’s dreams and aspirations.

He called some of the students to share their views on schools. The students said that they wanted their schools to be clean, have water and desired that all students should do well.

Mr. Suresh Kumar said that dreams could fuel their aspirations, students should work with dedication and put in hard work.
