Post-matric scholarship for 2010-11 (pending part) to minority students were distributed today at the erstwhile high court complex office of Minority & Other Backward classes and Scheduled Castes with Parliamentary Secretary for MOBC & SC Md Amin shah gracing the event as the chief guest.

Clarifying that belated distribution of the scholarship amount has nothing to do with official incompetency, Amin Shah cited procedural changes for the slight delay in extending the benefit the select students.

While in the past scholarship payment used to be through the heads of institutions, under the new process it is mandatory to comply with direct benefit transfer to the bank accounts of the students, explained the Parliamentary Secretary.

Stating that the new policy is still under implementation, Amin Shah also observed that certain section of the students belonging to the minority section complaining about not receiving their shares might be due to delay in opening their respective bank accounts.

To facilitate smooth implementation of the direct benefit system it is necessary for a students to have his/her own bank account or possess valid voter identity card or Adhar card, he highlighted while informing all concerned that the Central Government has also approved a specific policy to allow minority category students open bank account with ‘zero balance’.

A total of 262 students were among the recipients of the pending scholarship.
