Colombo:

Sri Lankan President Mahinda Rajapaksa Wednesday presided over an event to hand over scholarships under the Sri Lanka Insurance Corporation’s “Life Jathika Subapathum” scheme to school students.

President Rajapaksa handed over scholarships to students, who have obtained excellent results at national exams, at the Temple Trees Wednesday.

Altogether 300 students – the top 100 students of each Grade five Scholarship, GCE O/level and A/level examinations have been selected to receive the scholarships.

The scholarship program will be funded annually by the Sri Lanka Insurance Corporation from this year.

Education Minister Bandula Gunawardena, Higher Education Minister S. B. Dissanayake, deputy Minister Nandimithra Ekanayake, Secretary of the Education Ministry Dr. Sunil Jayantha Navaratne and officials of the Sri Lanka Insurance Corporation participated in the event.
