165 district sportspersons honoured with scholarships: India

Ludhiana, Punjab:

A total of 165 players of Ludhiana district were honoured with scholarships at the Guru Nanak Stadium on Thursday.
As many as 102 players, both men and women, who won medals for Ludhiana in ‘Shaheed-E-Azam Bhagat Singh Punjab Games’ were awarded scholarship of Rs. 10,000 each.

Besides this, 63 under-16 boy and girl players, who won medals in Punjab State Games were honoured with scholarships of Rs. 5,000 each.

Deputy commissioner Rahul Tewari gave the scholarships to the players.

District sports officer Kartar Singh Sehamby said the players were selected for the scholarships by their ranking points by the committees constituted by the state sports department.

He said these scholarship schemes were introduced by the state sports department for the promotion of sports in the state.

“The state sports department is adamant on promoting sports at the grass-roots level and in the rural areas of the state under the ‘Panchayat Yuvak Krida Aur Khel Abhiyan’ (PYKKA) scheme under which 10% villages of every block will be covered under sports every year,” Singh added.
