Drug bank for poor patients

A drug bank for patients living in the Corporation area is being set up by Kudumbasree’s Community Development Society (CDS). It will be one of the many community welfare projects that are being launched to mark Kozhikode Corporation’s ongoing golden jubilee celebrations.

In June

The drug bank would start functioning in June from the old building that housed the Corporation Office, a spokesman for Kudumbasree CDS project said on Tuesday.

The drug bank would be the first official venture of its kind, though many voluntary agencies already provided free medicines to poor patients.

Besides supplying medicines free of cost to poor patients in the 75 wards of Kozhikode Corporation, the drug bank also has provision to distribute, free of cost, wheelchairs, walking sticks, and water beds.

The CDS venture expects to get funds for its activities from banks, charitable organisations, NRIs, and philanthropists.

Mayor A.K. Premajam will release a brochure and inaugurate a fund-collection campaign at Tagore Centenary Hall on Friday to formally announce the objectives and advantages of the drug bank project.

Funds for the ‘Snehasparsam’ project collected by neighbourhood groups of Community Development Society will be handed over to the Kidney Patients Welfare Society that looks after the project for kidney patients on Friday at Tagore Centenary Hall.

The function will also feature a ghazal session led by Saritha Rehman.
