13% of teacher’s educators can handle curricular changes: CII : India

While Union and state governments regularly revise the school curriculum, teachers who are supposed to impart the skills to students are not qualified for such changes.

The Industry body Confederation of Indian Industries report which was released on Tuesday suggests a complete overhaul of the M.Ed curriculum. The report is significant as the country has launched several programmes like the Right to Education and Sarva Shiksha Abhiyan to make learning in classrooms robust.

“Only 13% of the teacher’s educators are prepared to handle curricular changes and are familiar with technology but not experts in independently using technology for teaching and learning. Teacher’s Educators don’t know how to guide B.Ed and M.Ed students about classroom management and address critical issues related to students,” mentions the 86-page report.

Interestingly, in the 2012’s Central Teacher Eligibility Test conducted by Central Board of Secondary Education, 99% of the 7.95 lakh candidates failed the exam.

Teacher’s educator Hari Chandan said, “Most of our education colleges not only lack infrastructure, but also qualified teachers. We must have a separate university for teacher’s education.”
