Sakina inaugurates 50-bedded OBC hostel: India

Jammu, December 25:

Minister for Social Welfare Sakina Itoo Tuesday inaugurated a 50-bedded OBC hostel at Basohli.
The hostel has been constructed at a cost of Rs 1.63 crore comprising 13 rooms attached with kitchens and toilet.

Speaking on the occasion, Itoo said that the government was making all out efforts to develop remote and far flung areas with basic facilities.
The minister was informed that the newly constructed OBC hostel would cater to the students of backward classes and remote areas, facing hardships of accommodation while studying in the town.
Sakina said that a long demand of the people of backward and remote areas of Basholi ultimately had been met.
She said this was the first such hostel in Jammu province for OBC students adding the government was committed to the upliftment of downtrodden, backward classes, weaker section SC, ST neglected sections of the society and construction of OBC hostel is a step in this direction.
The minister said that now it was the responsibility of the concerned for the maintenance of the hostel so that children who would be accommodated in the complex will get better educational environment.
Sakina said that scholarships to the tune of Rs 5 lakh had been distributed among the students of weaker sections, OBC, ST and SC under the pre-matric and post-matric scholarships schemes.
She said through revolutionary decisions like RTI, Public Services Guarantee Act the government ensured its people get a corruption free and accountable governance.
She said that Accountability Commission had been further strengthened with the main purpose to empower the people and provide them an opportunity to mitigate their problems in a time bound manner.
The minister said that presently 28,000 Anganwari centres were functional in the State where only women were employed.
She asked the Anganwari workers to work with zeal and dedication and do justice to their job.
She warned there would be no compromise on quality and quantity of nutrition to kids.
Responding to the problems and demands put forth by the people, the minister asked DDC Kathua to look into them.
Minister of State for Social Welfare Ajaz Ahmad Khan said that construction of OBC hostel was a gift to the people of Basholi, which would facilitate the students of the weaker and OBC sections in getting proper accommodation.
MP Chaudhary Lal Singh and MLA Basohli Sapolia also spoke on the occasion.
Later, Itoo distributed 70 cheques amounting to Rs 2.93 lakh among 74 SC, 16 OBC under post–matric scheme and seven cheques under National Family Benefit Scheme.
District Development Commissioner Zahida Khan, SDM Basholi Pran Singh, Director Social Welfare Jammu M H Bhatti, sarpanchs, panchs and anganwari workers were present on the occasion.
