Small industries can trade with Railways: India

THRISSUR:

T O Sooraj, director, industries and commerce, said the Ministry of Defence and Indian Railways are offering a lot of possibilities for the MSME (micro, small and medium enterprise) sector to do business, as these two entities have been making large scale purchases from India and abroad.

There are rules that public sector companies should buy products at a specific rate from MSME players. This opportunity should be taken advantage of, he said. Sooraj was speaking at a two-day national programme on ‘Vendor Development Programme cum Industrial Exhibition and Buyer Seller Meet’, at the Golden Jubilee Hall in Ayyanthol on Friday.

“The large scale industries are going through a crisis. The hike in bank interest rates has dented their hopes further. The programme organized here is intended to help small scale vendors get a platform for modernization and technical upgrading,” he said. The large scale buyers participating in the exhibition are Ministry of Defence, Indian Railways, Cochin Shipyard, BHEL, BEML, Integral Coach Factory, Instrumentation Ltd, Kerala Electrical and Allied Engineering Ltd, Keltron, Goa Shipyard and Mazagon Dock. Around 75 small and micro enterprises have set up stalls here. MSME promotional institutions participating in the exhibition are Fluid Control Research Institute, SIDBI, KVIC, NSIC, SBT, KFC, Coir Board and Canara Bank. The exhibition has been organized by MSME Development Institute, Thrissur.
