There was overwhelming response to the orientation and educational skill development programme conducted by the Department of Public Instruction on Monday. It was designed to improve the performance of students in the annual examinations. Around 4,115 Secondary School Leaving Certificate (SSLC) students took part.

The programme also aimed at helping students overcome their examination phobia. For this purpose, a workshop with the theme ‘Enjoy examination as a festival’ was conducted at Sri Nalwadi Krishnaraja Wadiyar Kala Mandir here.

K.M. Beerappa, president, Mandya Taluk Panchayat, inaugurated the workshop. M. Shivamadappa, Deputy Director for Public Instruction, urged the teachers and school management to put in place a series of measures to provide qualitative education to improve SSLC results in the district.

19,000 students

Resource persons from Karnataka Balavikas Academy, Dharwad, and Nandeeshwara Amcad Institute, Ranebennur, conducted the workshops.

Students were given tips on updating study materials, overcoming the fear of examinations, improving their learning process, enjoying studies and preparing for the annual examination. Teachers were asked to focus on improving the performance of their students.

As many as 19,000 students from all government, aided and unaided high schools will be trained as part of the programme. The district-wide event was inaugurated in Srirangapatna on Saturday where around 1,000 attended. Around 550 students in Maddur were given tips. Similar programmes will be organised across the district, Block Education Officer K. Mahadeva (South Range), told The Hindu.

Mandya Taluk Panchayat Executive Officer Boraiah, resource person Nandeesh B.B. Shettar and others were present.
