Scholarships Help Students Fly Out: India

    • BANGALORE: The economics of a foreign degree also works in favour of the student. Some years ago, it may have been for the wealthy, but now, with universities offering significant scholarships, students opt for those that cover a major chunk of their fees.

Sarla Birla Academy, for instance, has got scholarships worth $9,82,000, which is equivalent to Rs 4,71,36,000 for a batch of 13 IB students. This would include an annual scholarship from the University of Cincinnati, which has granted up to a total of $48,000. In Indus, applicants to the US raised a total of $5.8 million between them. With this, nearly every one will go to university worth between one-quarter and three-quarters of fees.

Parents are also willing to pay for their child’s education. “These days, getting a management seat here is as expensive as going abroad. There’s at least better quality education and more exposure. The world has opened up more, people earn more and want their child to get better education,” said Preet Benjamin, community relations officer, Inventure Academy.
