ANCSU clarifies on disbursement of scholarship

The All Nagaland College Students’ Union (ANCSU) clarified concerning delay of disbursement of scholarship, appeared in local dallies on 19 Nov.
Appended by its president Vilhousielie and vice president Tsukjem Longkumer and chairman grievances cell, the clarification note stated that there are certain procedures an formalities in doing specific work, thus it is not easy to practically put into work as it is to speak, it maintained that it is the demand of ANCSU, that the government has released the scholarship as soon as the department of higher education asked to expedite scholarship as was assured that it will be dispatched completely by the second week of October 2011.

The scholarship has been releasing to the students’ beneficiaries, where only 35,020 students submitted their bank accounts while 7,765 students had failed to do so, it stated, thus those students who have submitted their bank accounts have already got through the new system of availing their scholarship, while those students who have not submitted their scholarship still were found their bank accounts not of their own, but of their parents, relatives and friends. Moreover, some colleges had submitted only one account number with different customer name holder and some have submitted not nationalized bank accounts. The clarification note said it should be noted that detailed information of having the students’ own bank account in a nationalized bank has been circulated during the filing of the scholarship form.
The press note has listed the details for general information to the students that there are three centrally sponsored schemes that the students of Nagaland benefit, viz a), Post metric scholarship for ST Students’, b) Post metric scholarship to students belonging to minority and c) NEC stipend and book grant. The first scheme was applied by 37,880 students, but only 29,331 has followed the required criteria in filling the forms (i.e own bank account in a nationalized bank). The second scheme was applied by 68 students and 45 followed the right norms while the third scheme was applied by 174 students and 102 students followed the same.
“We also have two scholarship schemes sponsored by the government of Nagaland”, it said, Nagaland merit scholarship, where 5508 students followed the right norms in filling the forms out of 5595 students enjoying this scheme. The second is the Nagaland research scholarship, applied by 68 students but only 34 students followed the correctly.
The ANCSU thereby, requested the students and anticipates from the students that for every situation there are reasons behind it and as for the delay in the disbursement of scholarship, there are certain working procedures as mentioned earlier that is being followed by the concerned department. The ANCSU has requested the students to understand the ongoing situation on human ground. It also informed that the second phase of the disbursement of the scholarship has started since November 26, 2011.
The union assured that being the apex body of the students community, the ANCSU will always work for the up-liftment and welfare of the students without any distinction or discrimination.
