100 scholarships on offer for PU students : India

The philanthropic trust ‘Sarbat Da Bhala (SDB) Charitable Trust’ on Tuesday signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with Panjab University in which it has come forward to provide scholarship to 100 students of the varsity.

The trust’s managing trustee, S P S Oberoi, signed the MoU on behalf of SDB Charitable Trust and PU vice-chancellor Prof Arun Kumar Grover signed the same on behalf of the university. Oberoi said the grant of scholarship was a step in the direction where intelligent and hardworking students were helped to pursue higher education without any financial hardships.

According to the agreement, selected students in non-professional courses would get full fee scholarships and professional-course students would get 75% of the fee from the trust.

The five-step procedure will start after a candidate sends an application which would be verified and recommended by the department chairperson, and then endorsed by the dean of the faculty concerned. Thereafter, all applications would be discussed and finalized by the committee comprising three faculty deans and dean of students welfare and members of the trust headed. The scholarship would be awarded for the entire degree course, provided the candidate does not fail in the examination.

Eligibility criteria

Students who are economically weak, fatherless, affected by natural disaster, differently abled, or are recommended by a managing trustee of Sarbat da Bhala (SDB) Charitable Trust would be eligible for the scholarship. A family annual income of less than Rs 5 lakh, 50% marks and above in qualifying examination, and mandatory class attendance would be the minimum eligibility for applying for the scholarship.
