Open Day begins at AIISH

Mysuru, KARNATAKA :

More than 3,000 normal and specially-abled children from various schools, colleges and schools for children with special needs in city, accompanied by their parents, today thronged the All India Institute of Speech and Hearing (AIISH) in Manasagangotri on Day-1 of the two-day AIISH Open Day-2016 with the theme ’Hearing Protection.’

The Institute will be open for public tomorrow also from 9.30 am to 4 pm.

As part of the Open Day, various competitions like Treasure Hunt, Cap Race, Groom Yourself Race, Stacking Race, Mala Making Race, Lemon and Spoon Race and Balloon Blowing had been organised for specially-abled children while events like Debate, Painting, Quiz and Extempore contests had been organised for normal children. Fun games like Maths and Memory, Cocktail Word Recognition, Tap Your Visual Memory, Rebounce Ball, Challenge Your Reading, Bursting Balloon, etc., had been organised for School and College students.

Crossing the Obstacles, Matching Pictures, Aiming Targets, Filling Sand in Bottle, Picking Coin, Kicking the Ball were the games which had been organised for children with multiple special needs, while children with other Communicable Disorders were entertained with games like Aiming the Coin, Solving Puzzles, Pick-n- Speak etc. Care givers of special children also took part in several fun-filled activities.

Normal children from Mahajana, Manasagangotri, JSS and St. Joseph’s School accompanied by special children from Ashiyaana, Nireekshe, JSS, Beautiful Gate etc. took part in all the activities.

The Open Day was inaugurated by former AIISH Director Dr. N.Rathna in the presence of Open Day Convenor Dr. Sathyapal Puri Goswami with AIISH Director Dr. S.R. Savithri in the chair.

This apart, an exhibition to create awareness and educate children and visitors on hearing mechanism, speech production, prevention and management of communication disorders, harmful effects of noise and vocal hygiene had also been organised at the ‘Knowledge Park’ in the Institute premises.
