Bengaluru educator bags #100Women award : India

Bengaluru, KARNATAKA :

Her father’s death may have forced her to step into the corporate world as an IT analyst, but she still nurtured her dream to become a teacher.

Roshni Mukherjee found a way to teach thousands of school stu dents for free through Examfear.com, a web portal where she posts video lessons for students of classes 9 to 12. Roshni’s YouTube channel has more than 1 lakh subscribers.Recently, she also launched a website, further reaching out to students.

Roshni’s endeavours have earned her the #100Women Award, constituted by the Union ministry of women and child development (MWCD) in collaboration with Facebook. The #100Women Initiative aims to recognize and acknowledge women who are making a difference to their communities across the country. “I didn’t start this as a business. I did it because it was my passion, and I am glad it has earned recognition,” said Roshni. That the award was given after she garnered enough votes makes it all the more special.
At the launch of the award, Ankhi Das, director of public policy in south and central Asia at Facebook, said,”…Millions of people come on to Facebook everyday to talk about things that matter most to them. This is a great opportunity for us to celebrate women who have made a difference to our communities. We’re delighted to have this opportunity to celebrate and recognize the women of India.”

Roshni said the thought of teaching came to her when she noticed her maid’s children kept failing in their exams because their teachers barely came to class. The PowerPoint videos have a voice-over explaining the concepts. Roshni quit her job almost a little over a year ago to pursue her passion full time.
