Japan’s Special Representative calls on finance minister


ISLAMABAD:

Tadamichi Yamamoto the Special Representative for Afghanistan and Pakistan of Japan today met with the Federal Minister for Finance and Economic Affairs Dr Abdul Hafeez Shaikh here in his office in Islamabad.

While talking to him, the Finance Minister said that Pakistan in carrying out reconstruction and development work in Afghanistan and pledged $330million for this very purpose, and offered 2,000 fully funded scholarships to Afghan students.

The amount $330million for reconstruction of Afghanistan. This amount is being spent on projects like Torkham-Jalalabad Road, Nishtar Kidney Centre Jalalabad, Jinnah Hospital in Kabul and educational faculties in various universities across Afghanistan.
The Minister also informed the Special Representative and his team members that in addition to the 2000 fully funded scholarships Pakistan has provided facilitation to 500,000 Afghan students to get enrolled in Pakistan’s different educational institution and higher universities. The Afghan Pakistan Transit and Trade Authority, enhancement of trade between Pakistan and Afghanistan from $2billion to $5billion by 2015 was also discussed in the meeting.
