American College signs MoU to offer US scholarships : India

Madurai , Tamil Nadu:

American College in Madurai signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with Concordia College in New York, enabling the city students to pursue studies in US.

The American Transfer Programme (ATP) will enable students to get a degree from aboard. Normally, a student has to undergo eight semesters, in the city college as well in Concordia College, to get a degree. However, under the new programme, a student can complete two years of study here and undergo only three semesters of study in US to get an undergraduate degree.

Another salient feature of the programme is that students, who passed out from Concordia College, can pursue their master degree either from the US college or Valpraiso University, Indiana (an associate university of Concordia College) and can be completed within a year, said sources from American College.

Further, students who score 85% of marks in academics can acquire a maximum scholarship of 15,000 US dollars while the rest of the eligible students can acquire 10,000 US dollars as scholarship.

The minimum requirement is that a student must pass in TOEFL/IELTS exam. American college will be providing TOEFL / IELTS courses to the students eligible for ATP, said Davamani Christber, the principal of the college. The courses offered with ATP are Economics, Commerce, Business Administration, Visual Communication, English, Religion – Philosophy & Sociology, Bio-chemistry, Micro-biology, Zoology and Botany.

President of Concordia College, Viji George spoke to students’ parents and affirmed entry of meritorious students into his college, during an orientation progamme organized in the city. As many as 1,700 UG and 400 PG students attended the programme.
