Now, Finish Class X at Your own Time and Pace : India

Hyderabad , Telangana :

In what could be a golden opportunity for a number of dropouts in the rural areas, the Union Ministry of Human Resource Development (MHRD) is reportedly planning to launch an initiative which can get them through Class X without having to attend any formal classes. The MHRD, in association with the National Institute of Open Schooling (NIOS), is all set to launch a new initiative called Massive Open Online Courses (MOOC), in which registered candidates can obtain a formal matriculation degree just by clearing an online test in their favourite subjects, within a time frame that is convenient for them.

Under the MOOC, the NIOS will make the study material and the mock online tests available on their website. People with access to the internet can go through the material and prepare for the exam and also take the online mock tests to asses their performance before they take the main tests.

After the preparation, the candidates can register as a regular candidate for the Class X exam in any of the five subjects through the direct online registration with the NIOS. They can also register for the exam through the community service centres which are available in one lakh villages in India.

On successful registration, the candidates will be allotted a roll number and an exam ID, with which they can set their own exam date. By clearing the five subjects, the candidate will be awarded the Class X pass certificate.

For those who were unable to clear all five subjects in a single attempt, the MOOC provides an opportunity to clear them in multiple attempts.

They can clear one subject every year and get their certificate in five years, said, Anil Kumar, Regional Director, NIOS, Hyderabad. The candidates also have the privilege to decide their own subjects and exam date. “Anybody, irrespective of their age and gender, can take the exam,” he added.
