Children of nomads come under Vidyasiri scheme : India

Bangalore , Karnataka :

Continuing its spree of efforts to bring the downtrodden into the mainstream, the Karnataka Government yesterday decided to bring children of Gollas, Budabudake, Jogi, Killikyatha, Dombidasi, Hawadiga and other subsects of nomads under the Vidyasiri scheme which entitles them to a stipend of Rs. 1, 500 per month.

Announcing this, Social Welfare Minister H. Anjaneya said that most of the nomads who were living in Davanagere, Chitradurga, Gulbarga, Raichur, Tumkur, Chikkaballapur and other places in the State who were earlier getting an assistance of only Rs. 200 per month would be benefited by the hike and added that the Govt. had earmarked Rs. 50 crore for upliftment of these people.

To ensure that the benefits reach the beneficiaries without the involvement of middlemen, the stipend would be credited to the bank accounts of the beneficiaries, Anjaneya said and added that the arrears would be paid at the earliest.
