Chevron distributes scholarships in Moulvibazar

Dhaka:
Chevron Bangladesh, a subsidiary of Chevron Corporation, has distributed scholarships to 407 meritorious but financially disadvantaged students of nine high-schools, two colleges, one madrasah and two tribal communities (Tripura & Khasia) of Sreemangal, Kamalganj and Bahubal upazilas. 

Five top performers from classes VI to X of the participating high-schools, madrasah and indigenous communities were also given special prizes for their academic excellence at a ceremony organised near Chevron’s Moulvibazar Gas Plant recent, said a press release.

Upazila Chairman of Sreemangal Ranadhir Kumar Deb was present at the function as the chief guest, while Mayor of Sreemangal Municipality Md Mohsin Miah and Chevron Bangladesh Moulvibazar Gas Plant Superintendent Imrul Kabir were the special guests.

Chevron Bangladesh Field Community Engagement Manager Zulfikar Ahmed Chowdhury presided over the function.

Among others, Senior Coordinator, Community Engagement, Afzal Hossain Bhuiyan and Officer, Field Community Affairs, Badruddoza Badar, also addressed the function.

Students, teachers, parents/guardians and local elite were present on the occasion.

Since the launching of Annual Scholarship Programme at Moulvibazar in 2007, Chevron has so far distributed about 1,100 need and merit-based stipends to students in educational institutions in the district, the release added.
