UPSC: Path to a government job : India

The job market has become tougher and many have started opting for the government services as it gives better job security.

The key to government jobs is through the exams conducted by UPSC.

The Union of Public Service Commission popularly known as UPSC was accorded a constitutional status as an autonomous entity in the new constitution on January 26, 1950 under Article 315 of Constitution of India.

One of the functions of the Commission as laid down in the Constitution is to conduct examinations for appointment to various services of the Union and the All India Services.

Union Public Service Commission (UPSC) recruits candidates to the various government services through the following exams:

– Civil Services Preliminary Examination
– Civil Services Main Examination
– Indian Forest Service Examination
– Indian Economic Service Examination
– Indian Statistical Service Examination
– Combined Medical Services Examination
– Combined Defence Services Examination
– National Defence Academy & Naval Academy Examination
– Engineering Services Examination
– Geologists’ Examination
– Special Class Railway Apprentices Examination
– Central Police Forces (Assistant Commandants) Examination

Educational qualification:

Degree in the relevant field as per the service applied for, from recognized Indian university or an equivalent qualification.

Age limit:

Not less than 21 years and not more than 30 years of age for open category.
