Rs 4,025 cr earmarked for BC welfare: Saraiah – India

Tadepalligudem (West Godavari), Andhra Pradesh:

Minister for BC Welfare Basavaraju Saraiah on Monday said the State government had allocated a sum of Rs 4,025 crore during the current financial year for welfare of the BCs.

He was the chief guest at the BC welfare forum (BC Samkshema Vedika) organised at Tadepalligudem in West Godavari district.

Speaking on the occasion, he said that the State government’s commitment for the uplift of the BCs was evident from various measures taken by it, including fee reimbursement and scholarships for BC students to pursue higher studies. Stating that the previous non-Congress government had allotted a meagre Rs 25 lakh for BC Federation, the minister wondered how could BCs be developed when the allocation was so slim.

It was during the Congress regime that the allocation to BC welfare had crossed Rs 4,000 crore which was unprecedented. Construction of dhobighats with an allocation of Rs 50 crore to benefit Rajaka community, weaver development works with Rs 25 crore, a long-term mechanisation plan for the welfare of carpenters were among a few initiatives taken by the government for the welfare of the BCs, he said.

The minister reiterated the State government’s concern for the women development. Women were provided with interest-free loans to help them gain financial self-sufficiency.
