Proposed raise in BISP aid welcomed : Pakistan

Former Opposition Leader of the Punjab Assembly Raja Riaz Ahmed has welcomed the announcement of PPP Parton-in-Chief Bilawal Bhutto Zardari in which he reiterated that the direct financial assistance to the recipients under the BISP will be increased from Rs 1,000 per month to Rs 2,000 per month if it comes to power after the general elections scheduled to be held on May 11, 2013.

He said that the programme was an outstanding successful effort of the PPP government to empower women because the assistance under the programme was paid to the women head of the family. It enhanced their status to enable them to take active part in the nation-building process, he maintained.

He said that the BISP was a flagship programme of social security for the poorest of the poor and the staggering number of the recipients of 7 million families covered major section of the people who were living below the poverty line. He said that the programme had earned appreciation worldwide. He said that the PPP would stand by the poor and would never leave them in lurch as stated by Bilawal Bhutto Zardari in his statement on Sunday. They are the precious asset of the PPP and the party would continue to strive to improve their quality of life. He expressed confidence that the people of Pakistan would vote for the party in the forthcoming elections and would not be cheated by the show piece projects and hallow claims of Sharifs who opted for exile after concluding secret deal with the general. He said that paper tigers cannot be the real tigers.

He said that Shaheed Benazir Bhutto faced the worst dictatorship of Zia-ul-Haq and defeated him with his courage and perseverance but never compromised on democracy and the rights of the people.
