Lucknow government to open 1396 high schools in unserved areas: India

Thinking beyond the distribution of laptops and tablet PCs to the students, the state government on Monday announced to open 1,396 government high schools in a phase-wise manner in unserved districts. Adhering to the Rashtriya Madhyamik Shiksha Abhiyan (RMSA) norms, these schools will come up at every five kilometres with an objective of providing education to maximum number of students in undeveloped districts.

Giving this information, chief secretary Jawed Usmani in a meeting of UP Madhyamik Shiksha Abhiyan Parishad held on Monday, said new secondary schools will be established under Dr Ram Manohar Lohia Samagra Gram Yojana in which the shortlisted villages will be given priority. There is also a proposal to appoint one headmaster, five teachers and two office staff including drivers in each of the upcoming secondary schools.

The state government in the financial year 2013-14 plans to construct 236 additional classrooms, 77 laboratories with equipments, 89 libraries, 95 arts and craft rooms, 449 computer rooms, 320 toilets and 295 drinking water facilities in different government and government-aided schools.

Chairing the meeting, Usmani said that in addition to 144 girls hostels approved in the past, construction of 196 more hostels for girls has been proposed by the state government. Keeping in view the increase in incidents of crime against women, the state government has, for the first time proposed to start 153 judo training camps at girls inter colleges. Here, three months training will be imparted to the students. To ensure all-round development of the students in government and government-aided schools, the state government has proposed to take 72,132 students on educational tours to educational institutions and places of historical importance in the state. Besides, 41091 students will be taken on educational tours outside the state.

The chief secretary also informed that in service training to 26,932 teachers of government and government-aided schools will be provided in the academic session 2013-14. The teachers would be from different subjects including English, mathematics, social sciences, Hindi, Urdu and others.

Expressing concern on the unemploymenet in the state, Usmani said that the government is making efforts to introduce vocational education in 200 government schools. Students will be given training in automobile, security, retail, hospitality, mobile repairing and other skill development programmes. To make it successful, the state government will coordinate with the labour department, technical education, tourism, information technology, agriculture and also with the private industries to help class XII passouts get employment.
