104,174 youths trained: Memon : Pakistan

The Sindh Information Minister Sharjeel Memon has said the Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) government had provided training and stipends to 104,174 youth, with another 117,274 in process of being trained.

In a statement issued on Thursday, he said PPP government during its current tenure had carried out record development in the province with special focus on skill development of the youth that also includes a sizable number of women.

“There are 117,274 youth, with 31.5 percent of them comprising women, who are presently under training and would pass out in near future,” said the minister.

Memon said the Sindh government had particularly focussed on Benazir Bhutto Shaheed Youth Development Programme to address the issue of unemployment through skill development among youth.

He said the World Bank had given a soft grant of US $16 million for training of 45,000 youth while Japan Social Development Fund had given a grant of US $ 3 million for training of 5,000 youth.

“The provincial government has also launched series of mega projects to provide employment opportunities to the masses in general,” he said. Memon said 13,540 women had been trained by NCHD in market based stitching, 6,700 in livestock and another 6,021 in other relevant trades.

distribution: Waseela-e-Rozgar vocational and technical training certificate ceremony, featuring distribution of certificates among beneficiaries, who had completed their trainings in different trades, including electricians, boutique, plumber, computer operator etc, across the Sindh region, under Benazir Income Support Programme (BISP), was held at Arena Hall on Thursday.

Minister Sindh Technical Education and Vocational Training Authority (STEVTA) Sadiq Memon was the chief guest at the ceremony, while Zafarullah Khan Soomro, DG BISP Sindh and other BISP officials, Ektaraa International Organisation officials and principals, and teachers of vocational training institutes were also present.

Speaking on the occasion, Sadia said that the programme would help in the socio-economic uplift of the people of this country, and as the skills pool would increase and the industry would have more skilled people, it would improve the industry and business all across and would create more jobs.

BISP Sindh DG Soomro said that the initiative aimed at empowering female beneficiary or her nominee through acquiring a skill; become economically independent by acquiring vocational training through dynamic and integrated technical education and vocational training service. The vocational training sector encompassed both a recognised trainings format that led to the development of a certificate-based skill, and a non-recognised training such as in-house or product-based training under the BISP framework. Subsequently, he said, it would lead towards capacity building and professional development.

He said that under Waseela-e-Rozgar 10,000 youths would be provided technical and vocational training by the end of the year, so that they could stand on their feet with honour and dignity.

Basir Zaidi, CEO Ektaraa, said that vocational training with Rs 6,000 per month for the youth of Pakistan was ‘Waseela-e-Haq Rozgar Scheme’; a subsidiary project of BISP was all about, and it was a great step for the people of Pakistan. He said that in one year, they had 4,500 graduates qualifying through trade testing board, and they were running their own work on their feet.
