Presentation on technical training under BISP: Pakistan

Prime Minister Syed Yusuf Raza Gilani chaired a meeting of Benazir Income Support Programme (BISP) in which presentationwas given on Skill Development and Youth Employment at PM’s House here today.

The Prime Minister directed to coordinate efforts of skill development initiatives in Pakistan and also scale up the training programme to benefit the large number of young people to find employment opportunities in a productive manner.

The Prime Minister also emphasized the need for different government departments and institutions to avoid overlapping activities to ensure that programmes are run in cost effective and efficient manner. It was also decided that the training programme should take demand conditions into view so that the skilled people can be absorbed in the labour market both domestically and overseas.

BISP Chairperson, Madame Farzana Raja said that 150000 youth will be given technical training under Waseela-e-Rozgar scheme.

The main feature of Waseela-e-Rozgar is to impart training to 150000 young people both, men and women, through the government and private institutions to get them out of the vicious circle of poverty. BISP plans to achieve its goals though a set of relationship with institutions, both publicand private, all over the country.

Executive Director NAVTEC, Tariq Shafi Chak, said that NAVTEC has trained so far 125000 young people in various technical fields. He further said that 5 new schemes of training programme are underway which will train 50000 people for which the Prime Minister has allocated Rs. 250 millions.

Those who attended the meeting included, Dr. Abdul Hafeez Shaikh, Advisor to PM on Finance, Mian Riaz Hussain Pirzada, Minister for Professional and Technical Training, Dr. Nadeem ul Haq, Deputy Chairman Planning Commission, Secretaries of BISP, Ministry of Finance, Planning and Development Division, Human Resource Development, ED, NAVTEC, CEO PPAF, Chairman NADRA and other senior government officials.

Earlier, Chairperson BISP, Madame Farzana Raja briefed Prime Minister Syed Yusuf Raza Gilani about various BISP initiatives and their positive impacts on socio-economic betterment of millions of beneficiary families. She told the Prime Minister that BISP is all set to launch Health Insurance and Waseela-e-Taleem programmes to provide basic health and quality education facilities to beneficiary families.
