Kochi, KERALA :

Services of Kerala nurses lauded

The women’s forum of the Federation of Malayali Association of America (FOMAA) on Friday gave away scholarships to deserving nursing students. The scholarships were given to meritorious students from economically backward sections, said Rekha Nair, secretary of the forum, in a statement.

It added that the services rendered by nurses in Kerala, at a time when the sector is going through a crisis, were laudable.

FOMAA, formed in 2006, claims to be the biggest Malayali body in North America with a membership of over 67 organisations. It works for the welfare of Malayalis as well as those from other Indian States in North America.

The forum is considering introducing a scheme for elderly couples and destitute people in the State.

The scholarships were distributed at a function held here on Sunday. Mayor Soumini Jain inaugurated the ceremony. K.J. Maxi, MLA, and Tanuja Bhattadiri, PR manager, Medical Trust Hospital, were among the chief guests.

Dr. Sarah Esho, chairperson of the forum, presided.
