Kohima, December 23 (MExN):

The sericulture beneficiary empowerment training under Catalytic Development Programme was held from December 5 to 7 last at Kyong Eloe Hoho Hall, Wokha.

In this scheme, marginal farmers who are living below poverty line are selected and allow them to engage in sericulture activities like cultivation of silkworm host plants, construction of low cost rearing house and rearing of silkworm in order to uplift their economic living condition.
Pongener encouraged the farmers to take up sericulture for their livelihood since unit cost of expenditure for development of the acre land in sericulture is very minimum but high in cash return. It also provides employment opportunities for the weaker section of the community.
