Aimed at helping a child learn to follow his or her passion thereby making the child a worthy citizen, Kochi-based Tattwa Centre of Learning is being launched on Friday for children of 14 years of age and above using the platform of National institute of Open School (NIOS).

The Tattwa Centre is an initiative by educationalists Kamakshi Balakrishnan and Maya Mohan, former principal of Chinmaya Vidyalaya, Vaduthala.

“Alternative schools and schooling have not gained attention in Kochi, because many people think this system cannot equip youngsters to be competitive.

“We are launching this centre of learning without diluting the core philosophy of educating the future and maximising the potential of the learner,” said Maya Mohan.

She said open school form was gaining momentum in Kerala. Tens of thousands of students from Kerala are taking the examination these years. We should encourage the passion in children, instead of burdening them with the stress caused by school life. Certificates issued by NIOS are competitive and is recognised in any university,” Maya said.

“We are not expecting a huge number of students in the initial stage. But it is sure that there would be a change in the coming years. Tattwa offers personalised care to learners who want flexibility and choice in education. There will be an annual fees of Rs  40,000 which can be paid in one or more installments,” she said.

“In addition, Tattwa plans on becoming an educational resource centre for schools and colleges in the city, offering varied set of services such as counseling, training and teaching practices,” Maya said.
