Sikkim: Nutrition awareness camp held at Dikchu

The Nutrition Cell of Social Justice Empowerment and Welfare Department Government of Sikkim organized a Nutrition Awareness Camp for Dzongu ICDS staff at Dikchu, PHC.

The chief guest of the day Tashi Lepcha, Panchayat Secretary, Lum Gor-Santok in his address informed that, the Nutrition Cell, Social Justice Empowerment and Welfare Department is conducting several awareness programmes for the benefit of adolescent girls and mothers but the result of awareness programme is very low and which is the weakness of the people as they have to utilize the information in practical life for better result.

The ICDS Officers presented awareness on child care, infant and mother’s health and balance diet with nutrition and vitamins according to their health and how much calories should be taken. They also concentrated on adolescent hygiene and also informed that when the un-married girl child is of 18 years, they will be provided Rs.8000 as relief grant for their study from Government. It was also informed that, after one child there should be a gap of at least 3 years for giving birth to next child.

On July 14th 2011, SABLA scheme (Project) has also been launched for supplement food distribution for child and mother by Government of India. Dr. Mohan Thapa in his address parted information on maternity, child care, HIV/AIDS and Multi Drugs Resistance(MDR) Tuberculosis and its prevention Panchayat Sangtok ward, informed them that, in Dzongu area maximum girl child between class VI to VIII are misguided due to lack of proper awareness in marriage under age cases. So, the mother’s responsibility is to aware their girl
child about proper marriage time which is considered crossing over 18 years and above.
